Our Learning

D&T: We have been practising how to cut out templates and pin it to fabric to cut around. We are doing this as practise for making our puppets.

We absolutely LOVED our trip to Woodside Wildlife Park! ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿง

Curl up with a book for World Book Day. We all looked so cosy and we had lots of stories read to us today, including some of the childrenโ€™s books

Science week: here is one of the activities we did. We drew stockmen in glass and slowly poured water into the container and the stick man floated and danced around!!!

Money matters workshop from Yorkshire Building Society. We learnt about why it is important to keep money safe.

Our class celebration - stay and play

Safer Internet day: we looked at traditional stories which were changed to talk about how we stay safe online.

Reading: we enjoyed reading our story maps to our friends!

Music: we are practising keeping to the beat following different characters

History: this term we are looking at how toys have changed and what they were like in the past. Today we had a go at playing some different toys. The children spotted that most of the toys were made from wood.

PE: this term we are looking at striking and fielding. We were practising throwing and catching

Year 1/2 Christmas party!! We had so much fun!

PSHE: we were talking about different feelings, how it makes our body feel/look and examples of when we might feel like this

Remembrance Day: we spoke about what Remembrance Day is and that a poppy is used to represent this because it was the first flower in the fields after the war had ended. We created some poppy pictures, some children had a go collaging a poppy using strips or paper and crepe paper!

Bonfire/firework safety, we were lucky enough to have a visit from some firefighters who talked to us about how to keep safe on bonfire night. The children also got to look at the fire engine and have a go with the hose pipe.

RE we have been looking at who is special to us

Year 1 stay and play

Diversity week: we learnt about challenging stereotypes, different types of families and how were deserve to have equality.

Writing: in Talk 4 Writing, we have been learning the text Whatever Next and we have sequenced the story - beginning, middle and end.

Maths: we have been learning to compare numbers using more than, less than and equals to symbols. We got some children to come to the front to make the number sentences correct.

RE: we were very lucky to have Sunita in to tell us the story of Rama and Sita in assembly, so we came back to the classroom and had a go at drawing them from hearing what they look like.

Reading: we have just started Read Write Inc, and we are doing amazingly trying to sound out and blend our words.

What a fantastic first week in year 1. It has been great to get to know all the children.
