The School Day

It is so important for children to be in class on time and ready to start their day. It helps them settle into the morning and the teachers set out the learning and timetable for the day.

The school gates open at 8:45am and close promptly at 9:00am. Children should be in class by 8:55am at the latest. The children will be given activities to do when they arrive (as part of their daily dashboard) and the first formal lesson of the day starts promptly at 9:10am. School is required by law to set a time when we must close the register; this is at 9.10am. If a pupil arrives after this time, the session is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

If a child is frequently late, parents may be “failing to ensure their child is receiving an appropriate education.” Therefore, parents could be prosecuted by the Local Authority for failure to ensure regular attendance.

The school day ends at 3:30pm; the gates will be opened at 3:25pm for you to make your way to your child’s classroom for collection.

This therefore means each school day is 6.5 hours long (including breaks and lunchtime), giving a total of 32.5 learning hours over a week.

The car park gates are closed between 8:40-9:15am and 3:15-3:45pm. This is to protect pedestrians at busy times around the school site.
