Homework

January 27th 2017

This week, a 'Tricky Word Sheet' has been put in your child's PACT folder.

'Tricky' words are referred to as 'red words' in the Read Write Inc program. These are words which the children can not read using Fred Talk (segmenting the sounds). They must therefore learn to recognise these by sight.

Over the coming weeks, please support your child to learn these words as part of their homework. The EYFS staff will work with the children weekly to highlight a selection of words for each child to focus on.

What can you do to help your child?

  • Regularly share  books with your child. Bedtime  is a great time to do this.

  • Help your child to practice writing their name.

  • Encourage your child to read or recognise any signs when you are out and about, eg. shop logos, road signs, house numbers.

  • Provide opportunities for your child to do things on their own.
