Homework

Homework is set each week to support children's learning.

It is given out every Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday.

The activities have been carefully chosen to balance busy family life and activities outside of school, alongside ways that have an impact to help develop children's skills.

  • Sumdog is a fun, engaging way to develop rapid recall of number facts.
  • Reading regularly is a skill for life that will also support learning across the curriculum.
  • Writing for an audience gives purpose and writing on the blog each week also gives children experiences to prepare them for the online world in which we live in.

Sometimes, children are busy with activities outside of school and don;t get the chance to complete their set homework.  We therefore offer a homework club to which children are invited one lunchtime a week.  Children are also able to read in the quiet area of the playground at playtimes if they would like to.

Year 5 Homework Week 6:  Wc 10.2.17

Reading homework:  Minimum of 3 reads per week which needs to be evidenced in the reading record. You can sign and comment in your book but please also ask a parent/carer to initial.  Reading diaries will be collected in each Friday to count reads for prizes.

Spelling homework: Spelling homework: Use the year group spelling list provided in your homework book as a starting point – all highlighted words can spell independently. 3-5 at a time is plenty and don’t move on until you are confident in spelling them.

Maths homework: Weekly Maths challenge on Sumdog answering 50 questions.  You can do more if you wish.

Blog homework:  Keep me updated with all the exciting things you are doing over the holidays using our Y5 writing and spelling expectations. Read each other’s posts and add comments.
